I have found on some of the cheaper products the threads are often very rough but not on these. Rubber seals included.When I have unused one, I replace the plastic caps on the end of soaker hoses with these. Not just studier, but it also makes it easier to spot the end of the hose -- my typical deployment is have an advancing set of loops instead of straight lines.Primary use is on the male end of hoses that aren't being used. This protects the shape of the connector by being stronger than their typical aluminum end, both by being brass and by adding thickness. People working with me often move a hose and just drop the connector into the dirt or mud or ... Minimizes cleaning when it is time to attach something to them.Note: When leaving a hose in the sun or other hot area for more than a short time, you should not have both ends closed off because the expanding water can damage the hose (over time). I have Y-splitters on my faucets and most of the time a hose is attached to only one side. After I shut off the faucet, I open -- and leave open -- the unused side thereby allowing expanding water to exit via that path.
